I have been a qualified counsellor since 2011 and a qualified supervisor since 2018. I work in a person centered way.
Supervision is not about rushing to move clients on, or purely problem solving. Its about sitting with what is brought to the room. A chance to explore , discuss and develop. To help you raise your self awareness about how you work with and relate to your clients. .
Supervision is there to look after you and your clients. It gives you the safe space to offload, discuss and explore your process and that of the client. Whats impacting your clients, what's impacting you? Whats impacting you both? A space to discuss ethical dilemmas, legal requirements and for you to check out your understanding of things that are concerning you.I
Supervision is also about developing you as a counsellor so mentoring is available around business and private practice matters and accreditation.
My experience and interests are in childhood sexual abuse trauma and bereavement. I don't supervise those working with children.
For me supervision has to be a place of freedom, where you are free to have the conversations you need to have. If you cant talk about it in supervision where else can you?
