Sometimes you just need space

Space that is yours

Sometimes in life, coping with the behaviour of others, the issues of others, life can get too hard and we disappear. The space that is ours ceases to exist.  We cease to exist.

Sometimes we just need space. A space that is ours, a space where we exist. Where even for a fleeting moment we matter. A space where we can just be.

In this space we hold onto us and we hold onto what is left of us. As others chip away or seek to destroy we simply hold on.  We hold on, waiting until it is safe to return, safe to be us once again.

There will always be a small part, maybe just one but a small part.  Part of us we choose to keep safe. It may feel like we are lost or deep inside but we will be there. Somewhere.

And it is in this space that every now and then someone will chose to join us. They will sit with us in the dark. Sit without trying to change, fix or rescue. They will sit with us without flinching.

They hear the small part and they listen. For the first time someone listens.

They hear us, they hear the words we say, they understand. They hear us hidden deep inside, they hear our hidden screams. And even when we have lost all hope of ever being us again, they hear us. Finally someone knows we exist. Finally someone can see us.

They see us. It’s no longer about someone else, it’s no longer about others, it’s finally about us, and in this space we begin to matter again, and we begin to exist. This space is ours, this space is safe.

And in that space, in that brief moment we know. We know they are there. We know we are safe.

We can choose to exist again, we can choose to return.

I choose to sit in that space with you. I am there.

Sometimes you just need space.

Space that is yours.
